P-Wave Press is pleased to announce the forthcoming publication of
Pushing the Wave 2024, the latest volume in L.A. Davenport’s ongoing series of essays, cultural commentary, and visual work. The book will be published in paperback and hardback on 26 March 2026.
Since its inception,
Pushing the Wave has evolved into a distinctive annual project: a space where writing, photography, and drawing meet sustained reflection on modern life. Each volume gathers work originally published across the year and reshapes it into a considered, coherent whole.
The first collection,
Pushing the Wave 2017–2022, brought together five years of writing as the project found its voice and form.
Pushing the Wave 2023 marked a turning point, with a renewed commitment to the weekly essay format and a broader engagement with travel, memory, and visual storytelling.
Pushing the Wave 2024 builds on that momentum. The new volume brings together essays written across the year alongside drawings and photographic essays from Europe, the United States, and beyond. While the visual material plays an important supporting role, the book remains anchored in the writing itself—reflective, inquisitive, and often quietly challenging.
Themes range from creativity and attention in everyday life to cultural rituals, education, freedom, and the implications of new technologies. Travel writing sits alongside more inward-looking pieces, with place acting less as destination than as a lens through which experience and memory are examined.
Reflecting on the process of assembling the book, Davenport said:
“Each year that I sit down to compile Pushing the Wave, I find myself both looking forward to the process and approaching it with a certain amount of apprehension. These pieces are, after all, fragments of a life lived in thought, observation, and motion.”
As with previous volumes, the pieces have been edited and shaped specifically for the book, allowing the year’s work to be read not simply as a sequence of posts, but as a sustained conversation—with the reader, and with the moment in which it was written.
Pushing the Wave 2024 will be available directly from P-Wave Press and through all major book retailers from
26 March 2026.
Further details, including ordering information, will be announced in due course.
