Pushing the Wave

Pushing the Wave is an ongoing series celebrating creativity, reflection and the art of seeing the world anew. Each volume gathers essays, stories and photo essays by L.A. Davenport, exploring life, art and the everyday moments that shape our sense of connection and meaning.

The first volume, Pushing the Wave 2017–2022, captures five years of thought-provoking writing, from meditations on technology and solitude to essays on travel, creativity and human nature.

Its successor, Pushing the Wave 2023, continues the journey with a renewed intimacy and visual richness, combining reflective essays, drawings and evocative photography.

The third volume, Pushing the Wave 2024, deepens the exploration, bringing together essays, cultural commentary and travel writing from across the year, accompanied by drawings and photographic essays that reflect a growing engagement with place, memory and the complexities of modern life.

The fourth volume, Pushing the Wave 2025, published 17 November 2026, turns to the things we carry with us. Alongside essays on the AI bubble and free speech, Davenport traces a decades-long relationship with London, finds himself in Washington D.C. during the government shutdown, and weighs the borrowed "cool" of an unlabelled mixtape, asking, throughout, what we inherit, what we pass on and what remains.

Together, these books offer a deeply personal yet universal chronicle of modern life — an invitation to pause, think and rediscover the beauty in experience.

L. A. Davenport, born in Cork, Ireland, in 1973, is a novelist and short story writer whose works include The Nucleus of Reality, Escape, and No Way Home. A graduate of Emmanuel College, Cambridge, he brings extensive experience in medical journalism to his insightful and engaging fiction and non-fiction.
