Ants – A New Essay From Pushing the Wave
We’re excited to share the third excerpt from Pushing the Wave 2017–2022 by L.A. Davenport on Substack! In this new piece, Ants, Davenport reflects on a seemingly simple moment: an invasion of ants in his kitchen. However, this small occurrence turns into a profound meditation on nature, waste and our responsibility toward the environment.
Davenport’s ability to find meaning in the everyday continues to shine in this essay. What began as an observation of ants carrying away crumbs soon became a larger reflection on humanity’s often overlooked relationship with the world around us. Through the lens of the natural world, this essay explores how small things—things we tend to ignore—are connected to much larger issues of sustainability and ecology.
We invite you to read Ants and reflect on how our daily actions impact the environment. As always, feel free to share your thoughts on X (formerly Twitter) and Bluesky.
