15 May, 2025—P-Wave Press is delighted to announce the release of
Maid Marian & The Misfortunes of Elphin by
Thomas Love Peacock, scheduled for
4 September 2025. This beautifully presented edition is the
second title in the P-Wave Classics imprint, following the successful launch of
Headlong Hall & Nightmare Abbey earlier this year.
Maid Marian (1822) and
The Misfortunes of Elphin (1829) showcase Peacock’s signature blend of
sharp wit, historical satire, and literary parody. In
Maid Marian, Peacock transforms the
Robin Hood legend into a
riotous political and social satire, where Marian is no passive damsel but a bold leader who outwits both outlaws and aristocrats. Through
comic absurdity and razor-sharp dialogue, Peacock masterfully ridicules the conventions of
chivalry, monarchy, and feudal society.
In
The Misfortunes of Elphin, Peacock reimagines the
mythical past of Wales, intertwining
Arthurian legend, bardic tradition, and biting political critique. Through the hapless adventures of
Prince Elphin, his resolute wife
Angharad, and the wise bard
Taliesin, Peacock offers a
whimsical yet scathing exploration of power, fate, and historical myth-making. Filled with
anachronistic wit and
playful satire, this novel is Peacock at his most inventive.
This edition includes a
new introduction and notes by L.A. Davenport, exploring the historical and literary influences behind Peacock’s satire, and providing fresh insights into his comic genius.
The launch of
Maid Marian & The Misfortunes of Elphin further cements the mission of
P-Wave Classics: to
revive and celebrate timeless literary works with sharp social commentary and enduring wit.
The book will be available in both
print and eBook formats, distributed through major retailers, as well as directly from the
P-Wave Press website.
